About us:

The department of Mathematics was established in June 1963. It is well known for the merit rankers at the University examinations. T

Faculty Profile: There are four staff members in the department.

Prof M J Diwan: HOD Lecturer selection grade M Sc., M Phil. She has 30 years of teaching experience. She was member Board of studies in Maths and is currently in the syllabus committee. She is interested in Vedic maths. She is a member of local managing committee of the college.

Prof D N Masuti: Lecturer selection grade M Sc., M Phil. She has 24 years of teaching experience. She is involved in training students for competitive exams. She was member of Women development cell.

Prof Mary Jossy Lecturer selection grade M Sc. She has 17 years of teaching experience. She has done a course in computer programming.

Prof Indra Saud Lecturer senior scale M Sc., SET. He is very popular teacher and has 12 years of teaching experience. He is the recipient of “ The late Shri Balakrishna Waman Deshpande Prize for securing 2^nd rank at the M.Sc examination at the University of Mumbai.

Student Profile:

Students are from economically under privileged section of the society and most of them are from vernacular medium. However they are very sincere.

Changes made in the course content:

The department contributes significantly  to the curriculum development. The syllabus has been updated and computer programming has been included.  

Trends  in success  and drop out rates:

The students and teachers strive hard resulting in a success rate of 86% and many of them secure a distinction. The department is also proud of the University rankers.

*Firoz  Ahmad B.  secured 90.5% in 2005-2006 with 8^th rank in University and 4^th   rank in   Maths( First in college)

*Rajani  Rai   secured  86.88% in  2004-2005 with 11^th rank in University and 2^nd rank in  Maths( First in college).

The drop out rates are nil.

Learning Resources of the department:

The department has a well equipped    laboratory with   six  P.C’s (with Internet Facility)  and one Laser printer. There are 200 books in the department library. The department is open for extended period of time so that the final year students can utilize these facilities.

Modern teaching methods practiced:

Students are given free access to computer and internet facility. It is used for reference work and to practice writing programs.

Participation of teachers:

All teachers are dedicated and solve more problems to explain the basics of the subject. Students are provided with question bank. The students have a strong bonding with the teachers due to which they discuss their problems freely.

Details of faculty  development programs: 

Two programs were organized in 2006-07. A lecture on Vedic mathematics and an inter- collegiate seminar contest in mathematics was conducted on 16^th January 2007.

Collaboration  with other  departments and college:

Hindi and Sanskrit  department workshops are attended by M.J.Diwan. We have a good interaction with Mathematics departments of other colleges M.J.Diwan and D.N.Masuti  were invited as judges for seminar competitions in Ratnam and Vikas college.

Placement record:

Most of the students progress for higher studies. Many of them clear the joint enterance exam and join I I T for their M Sc program. They also join for M Sc at the University department.
